The library staff is on holiday from Nov 19th to Jan 14th. During this time the library is closed. We will be back in 2023, starting January 14th. At that time we will restart our part-time availability (9am-3pm on the 2nd , 3rd, and 4th Saturdays of the month). If you stop by to drop off your books, please leave them with Membership (setup near Ayres Hall)

The Botanical Information Consultant is available via phone and email (626-821-3236 | plantinfo@arboretum.org) as well as in person when the Library is back open.

Avoid entering the library if you are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms or feeling sick.

When we return on Jan. 14, 2023, patrons will be able to:

  • Browse the Library collections,
  • Arboretum members may check out materials,
  • Access Wi-Fi services and use the public computer,
  • Use the Library as a study, recreational reading space, etc.
  • Browse and purchase used book sale items

We also encourage our Members to check out the large selection of e-books at the Library catalog and here for some featured e-books. Be sure to put “LA” in front of your membership number when you encounter the paywall.  Curbside/Library Book Drop pick-up is also still available when the Library is open.

All books currently checked out can be returned in the Library book drop in front of the Library doors when the Library is open or at the Membership Office when the Arboretum is open, but the Library is closed.

The Arboretum Library is located within The Arboretum at the top of the ramp near the entrance to the Gift Shop and east of the main bathrooms. History of the Library

Library Interior Sept. 4th, 1959.S-1071.1

"One of the nine objectives put forth in 1948 by the California Arboretum Foundation Board administrator for the newly founded Los Angeles State County Arboretum, was library service. A reference library for staff members only was the original intent in planning for a library, but since Arboretum objectives included both research and public information, it was soon apparent that the library must eventually become both a staff and a public resource."
