Can more than one person read an ebook at a time?

Many ebooks can be viewed by more than one user. However, publishers do place restrictions on certain titles so that they are only accessible by one person at a time. If the book is currently checked out, you still have the option of viewing the book in ebrary's Online Reader, making notes and annotation and priting out sections of the text.

Who can access our ebook collection?

Staff, volunteers and students of Mt. Cuba Center are permitted access to our ebook collection. In order to access ebrary, you will need to be assigned an MCCID number. Please contact the library staff for more information.

How can I get my MCCID number?

Log on to your library account via the Library's homepage: http://library.mtcubacenter.org/. Once you have logged on, your MCCID number will appear in the blue box at the top of your account page.

Downloading titles from ebrary

Can ebooks be downloaded to my computer?

Yes, unless it is already checked out to another person. Individual chapters and page ranges are available via printing to a pdf file.

How do I download an ebook?

Be sure to check out the following sections in our help guide according to what device you are using to download your book:

What can I do with my downloaded ebook?

You are able to:

  • Read and annotate the ebook offline
  • Transfer the ebook to any supported device
  • Check out and return downloaded ebooks
  • Organize your library of downloaded ebooks
  • Transfer downloaded documents to other devices, for example an iPhone, iPad, Kobo, Nook, Sony Reader, or others (but not a Kindle)
  • Navigate your library of downloaded ebooks
  • Search text within a downloaded ebook
  • Create bookmarks
  • Print chapters or page ranges

How long can I keep a downloaded book?

Access periods are for either 7 or 14 days. You can return an ebook early.

What happens after 7 or 14 days? Do I have to do something?

After the designated access time (14 or 7 days), the PDF file will remain on your computer or device, but it becomes unreadable. It is recommended that you delete the (unreadable) file.

I am finished with an ebook. How do I check an ebook back in?

You don’t need to return an ebook that you downloaded. But since you can only have ten ebrary documents downloaded as e-books at a time, you might want to return an ebook early so you can download others. Early returns of downloaded ebooks are done through Adobe Digital Editions, or an application (such as BlueFire) on your device. Returns may take up from 10 minutes to an hour to be recognized on the ebrary site.

Is there a limit to how many ebooks I can download?

You can have up to 10 ebooks at a time.

Can I transfer my download document to another device?

Yes, if you created an Adobe Account and authorized your copy of Adobe Digital Editions.

System Requirements

What are the software requirements to view ebooks?

  • In order to download and view books from ebrary on your laptop or desktop, it is necessary to download and install Adobe Digital Editions. If this program is not already installed at your work station, you may need to contact Technical Services to approve this download.
  • Create an Adobe ID. If you do not have an Adobe ID, please click here to create one.

Ebrary works with Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers.

Be sure to your popup blocker is set to allow pop ups from ebrary.com.

How do I install Digital Editions and why do I need an Adobe ID?

When you create an Adobe ID, you will be able to read downloaded ebooks with Digital Editions on up to 6 (six) computers and mobile devices. You will also be able to restore your ebooks from a backup if needed.

If you do not create an Adobe ID: Downloaded ebooks will be “tied” to the specific computer that you downloaded to. Any ebook will not be readable on other computers or devices and cannot be restored if needed. You can change and “authorize” your computer within Digital Editions if you decide to create an Adobe ID after installation is complete.

What other devices are supported by ebrary?

In addition to laptops and desktops, users are able to download ebrary content to iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Kobo, Nook,Sony Reader and Android devices.

Why isn’t (insert title here) available as an e-book?

A title's availability as a ebook is determined by the publisher. Not all companies will decide to release a title as an ebook. If the title is available digitally, it may not be available through ebrary. You can always contact the library staff to request a new addition to the collection.

What is Digital Right Management (DRM)?

It is a way of securing an ebook (or music or other digital file) so that only someone with the correct key can open it and use it. Books that are not in the public domain are the intellectual property of the author of the book (or to whomever has received rights from the author). DRM technologies are used to limit the amount and type of access and control a consumer has over the book after purchasing it.
