Members of the Chicago Botanic Garden may borrow books online. Here's how to do it.

Search Results in Ebook Central

  • The keyword is highlighted in the search results, and there’s a short description to give you a bit more information about the book, including whether it is currently “Available,” “Available on request,” or “In use.”
  • You can refine your searching by using search filters such as Year Published, Subject, Language, and Author.
  • Download the book, read it online, see the Table of Contents and more, and add the book to your bookshelf.
  • Chapter Results provide the top chapters from the most relevant books.

Simple Search

To perform a simple search, type keywords in the search box. Look for the Search box at the top of the page, or the Search link in the global navigation.

By default, results are sorted with the most relevant at the top. Therefore, the title searched for is shown first.

Chapter Results provide the top chapters from the most relevant books.

You can refine your searching by using search filters such as Year Published, Subject, Language, and Author.

Click on the desired title for more information.

 

This title can be read online or downloaded and checked out for 7 days (downloads require free third-party software). Chapters are available to download without any loan period or expiration.

Advanced Search

To narrow down your search by author, title, subject, publisher, ISBN, etc., click on "Advanced Search".

Search for an e-book by author

To search by author, click the drop-down menu and select author.

Then type the author's name in the search box and click "Search".

To search by title, click the drop-down menu and select title.

Type the title or a portion of the title of the book you are searching for. Click "Search".

Book Details

At a glance you can see:

  • How many copies are available at your institution
  • If the title is currently available
  • If the title is available for full title download
  • PDF chapter downloads
  • Copy and print allowances
  • View chapter page range and page count details
  • Pages remaining for PDF chapter printing/download
  • The Table of Contents and expandable book description
  • Full set of bibliographic data, including series and edition, expandable to include full bibliographic details

If you choose to work with a book, you may do the following:

  • Read online
  • Download the full book
  • Add to bookshelf
  • Share link to book
  • Cite the book

For select books, your institution may offer five (5) minutes of reading before you need to request longer use at no charge to you. Simply click the Request button, fill out the quick form, and submit to your librarian for approval.

From the Table of Contents you may do the following:

  • Read online or download book chapters and subsections in PDF
  • Expand parts and chapters to access subsections
