The Whitins and the WCHS

Both John C. and Paul Whitin were active members of the WCHS from its earliest days and were involved as leaders and exhibitors. John C. was a Vice President between 1853-1860,

Worcester County Agricultural Society

Paul Whitin, Sr. became a member of the newly formed Worcester County Agricultural Society (WCAS) in 1819. The purpose of the WCAS was to support and fortify agricultural pursuits throughout the county. Their major annual event, the Cattleshow, provided a means to share ideas and best practices from farms and included competitions on everything from animals, to tools, woven products, produce and machines. Paul's sons, Paul Jr. and John C. also became involved in the WCAS and the Transactions of the Worcester County Agricultural Society show they both exhibited and served on committess such as 'Working Oxen' (Paul in 1843), 'Agricultural & Mechanics Tools' (John C. in 1843), 'Milch Cows' (Paul in 1849), and 'Agricultural Tools' (John C. in 1851).
