Co-hosted by Cleveland Botanical Garden & Holden Arboretum

Tuesday, May 24: Most activities at Cleveland Botanical Garden (CBG) in Woodland Hall, 8 AM-6 PM

  • 8:00 am - 5:00pm Registration at Cleveland Botanic Garden
  • 10:00 - 11:30  Workshop: Basic Book Repair for Beginners on a Budget, presented by Ellie Strong and Sharlane Gublin
  • 12:30 – 6:00 PM committee meetings, including Ad-Hoc Strategic Planning Committee
  • 6:30-8:30 Opening reception at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

Wednesday, May 25: Morning Activities at CBG in Woodland Hall, 8 AM – 12 PM

  • 8:00 to 9:00 am Registration
  • 8:30 to 8:45 Welcome by Natalie Ronayne

  • 11:05 to 11:30 Brad Lyon and Joanne Fuccello of Woodburn Books, Kathy Crosby of Brooklyn Botanical Garden, and Susan Eubank of Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden: “A Reconsideration of Stewardship and the De-Accession Dilemma”
  • 11:30 to 12:00 CBG grounds tour

  • 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM off site; Cleveland tours
    • 12:30 to 2:00  lunch at West Side Market
    • 2:00 to 2:30 travel back to CBG; drop off selected attendees
    • 2:30 to 5:00  Science Center/Rock Hall/Harborside/Cultural Gardens
  • 5:30 arrive back to CBG; dinner own your own

Thursday, May 26 Morning and early afternoon at Woodland Hall, CBG, and Dinner at CBG

  • 8:30 to 10:30 AM Patrick Randall, Community Manager, Expanding Access to Biodiversity Literature, Ernst Mayr Library, Museum of Comparative Zoology; Harvard University; William Ulate, Center for Biodiversity Informatics, Missouri Botanical Garden; and Mariah Lewis, Metadata Specialist, New York Botanical Garden , “Expanding Access to Biodiversity Literature”

  • 10:30 to 10:45 break

  • 10:45 to 12:45 Business meeting

  • 12:45 to 1:30 Lunch

  • 1:30-2:00  CBG glasshouse tour
  • 2:00-5:00 offsite; University Circle walking tour
    • Allen Medical Library, Cleveland Museum of Art (where there will be a coordinated exhibit of botanical art), Cleveland Museum of Natural History Library

  • 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Dinner at Cleveland Botanical Garden
    • 5:00 to 6:00 Drinks and hors d’oeuvres
    • 6:00 to ~7:00/7:30ish  Dinner (overlooking their Japanese Garden designed by David Slawson!)

Friday, May 27: Activities chiefly at Holden Arboretum 8 AM –  9:45  PM

  • 8:00 AM leave CBG for Kirtland (Herb Society and Holden)
  • 8:45 to 10:15 Herb Society of America
  • 10:30 arrive at Holden Arboretum
  • 10:45 to 12:00  welcome and talk by CEO Clem Hamilton

  • 12:00 to 12:45  lunch

  • 12:45-2:30  Business Meeting
  • 3pm to 5pm   tours of Holden Arboretum
  • 5:00 to 5:30  flex time
  • 5:30 to 6:30 reception, Reinberger Room
  • 6:30 to 7:30 dinner, Visitor Center Lobby
  • 8:00 to 8:45 keynote speaker: Debra Knapke, “Books, Botany, and Horticulture: A Beautiful Combination” - http://www.debrathegardensage.com/
  • 8:45-9pm Board Buses for return
